The Mushroom
This building, at 25 Martin Place Sydney, was designed by Australian architect Harry Seidler and completed in 1977. Affectionately known as the Mushroom, it is the location of the Commercial Travellers Association Club. About 20 years ago I went there with some work chums on a Friday night for an end of week bevie. I recall it remained a tribute to the '70s with velvet booths and loud carpet. By all accounts it hasn't changed and I think it's time we went back there. Story goes that Bob Hope has stayed there.
Behind the Mushroom to the right is another Seidler building included at 25 Martin Place. Completed in 1978, this octagonal building was at the time the tallest skyscraper in the southern hemisphere.
The extra provides a wider view and context.
Thanks for hosting Bob
