Ask a librarian
It's been a busy day in Tarragindi. One of my many activities was to visit the Avid Reader bookshop in the nearby suburb of West End to buy a copy of Graham Greene's The Quiet American. I'll explain that in the fullness of time. I found an on-street parking spot, which signs told me was in a 4 hour metered parking zone. But I couldn't find a meter. As a newcomer to Brisbane this was all very puzzling. I realised I was parked outside the Kurilpa (West End) Library and thought I'd ask a Librarian for help. She was brilliant, and helped me install an app on my phone to pay for metered parking.
I subsequently found that this library building is historically significant. It was completed in 1929 and was the first purpose-built municipal library in Queensland. Amazingly, it has a clock-tower and a peal of bells - which played the quarter hour to us as we arrived. The building was heritage listed in 2007. Wikipedia has (lots) more.
