I Break, She Fixes

I dropped my little tape measure from the chair arm to the floor where it popped apart and lay in pieces. I figured that was the end of something so plastic and that I had picked up as a promotional freebie years ago. But part of its retractability is a long strip of metal wound up as a spring. It surprised me to find so much metal in it. Then Barb picked it all up and put it back together. That surprised me, too - not that she figured it out and simply did it, but that it surprised me, I should be beyond those gender assumptions, like joking that whenever Eric is in the room, I cannot open a jar without his help.
