Yesterday I was in the right place to see this sparrow hawk in action. It had caught a pigeon but the pigeon was too heavy to fly with and they ended up in the pond. The sparrowhawk kept trying to fly but couldn’t and by this time the pigeon was well and truly dead. Eventually it dragged it to the edge of the pond where it could get purchase and find somewhere to balance. The I left it was starting to pluck the feathers from the pigeon. Sad but the natural world and amazing to watch. The sparrow hawk was SO determined!
