No Other Land

I went alone to see No Other Land, a documentary filmed by two young men: one Palestinian, the other Israeli. They documented the Israeli Army invading villages in the West Bank of Palestine, making people leave their homes, bulldozing their homes, declaring the area an Army Training Zone, and then building new Israeli settlements on that land. The title comes from a response one of the Palestinian women makes when the soldiers tell her to “move on.”

“To where?” she asks. “We have no other land. This is our home.”

Tonight was opening night, and the theatre was nearly sold out. The commercial media have stopped telling us about Palestine; they spend all their time on Trump and Musk dismantling the US government. But Portland has not forgotten Palestine. We are no more effective at stopping the crushing of Palestine than the two young journalists in the documentary, but we are not looking away.

Jewish Voice for Peace set up a table in the theatre lobby with information and a flyer with a QR code that leads you to information about actions planned.
