Slice of tree
...exciting day as our neighbours had agreed to have the enormous conifer tree in their garden cut down. It was twice the size of our house and very worrying every time the wind blew. It was fascinating to watch the skilled tree surgeon doing his job.
This is a shot across one of the cut logs and I loved to see the stories of different summers and winters the rings told. The tree was about 76 years old, according to a quick ring count, which means it was planted about the time our house was built. It had grown away all that time, but it had become dangerous, so it's good that it's now down. We'll plant a native tree elsewhere in the garden to replace it and, in about 3 years time, when the wood is well seasoned, enjoy the heat it'll give us from our log burning stove....
