Boom
This is what happens if you put things in the kiln before they are completely dry. The moisture in the clay expands and makes the clay explode.
This isn't my work but someone elses. They hire the kiln from me. Its their choice when the pieces go in the kiln as I don't take that responsibility. Whilst the pieces felt dry it was clear they needed a bit longer. But it was me who had to break the news and spend the next hour cleaning all the shrapnel from between the elements. The next shelf down also had casualties. Such a shame as this particular lady puts alot of work into carving her pieces and shes preparing for an exhibition.
Lesson learnt.
Bit of a house work day for me today whilst the studio was in use. And walkies. The mud is a bit more sticky than sloshy now. I'll be glad when we can walk without the risk of slipping over.
