Blue Heron Taking Off At Grace Harbor
Today we woke up early in Nanaimo for our trip northeast across the straights of Georgia. It was cloudy and quiet, and we were in for a treat...the seas were clear as glass, hardly a ripple and absolutely no wind or chop...smooth motoring all the way to Pender Harbor on the mainland. The trip takes about 4+ hours and can be pretty uncomfortable if it's nasty, but the Gods were smiling and it was a piece of cake (with frosting)!!
Once we arrived at Pender Harbor, we headed up to Hospital Bay where we had stayed previously, but they had no space at the docks for a couple of hours. The government dock next door did have a large space, so after we got fuel, we tied up to wait. Bob topped off the water tanks and then we got to talking and decided to continue north to Desolation Sound, another 5 hours. With calm seas, you make the best of a good day!!!
We arrived at Desolation Sound about 5PM, and headed for Grace Harbor for the night. Luckily we had "leftovers" from the night before for supper, as we were tired. We managed a nice sunset dinghy ride around the harbor, where we got some shots of a blue heron taking off. This area is absolutely beautiful...and I'm excited at all of the possibilities in the next couple weeks...so much to see and do.
