Mono in Winter
Enjoyed lunch with a friend (and our attorney) today and on the way home I stopped to grab a few shots of this old barn. Unfortunately, the sun was in a poor position for this shot and I ended up doing far too much fartnarkling in LR, but it is what it is. The little stream in this shot runs into a much larger lake which still had some intrepid souls ice-fishing on it. That is something I will likely never do - sitting out in the middle of a frozen lake next to a hole in the ice, hoping for something to happen... nope. That being said, I am perfectly happy to sit in a hide in the middle of the garden waiting for something to happen ... so who knows?!
The red-winged blackbirds started showing up in the garden a few days ago, right on schedule. There is a small group of a dozen or so males who show up this time every year and start singing and displaying. There is a stream about a quarter mile from us with lots of reeds which is a favored nesting habitat for this species so within a month there will be females arriving although they won't usually visit our garden until the nesting season is over. Spring is coming...
