Broad-tailed hummingbird

Behind a day...again.

Most hummingbirds don't fan out their tails when they hover. This broad-tailed is, as far as I know, the only hummer in North America which does.  I did a whole boatload of stuff which, since I'm posting a day behind, I can't remember.  This is photographic proof that I spent a little time in Madera Canyon.  I didn't stay long because it was really crowded.  Sundays in the mountains, especially when the weather is nice, is unbearable for me.  I need room to breathe and be with my thoughts as I soak up the sounds.  That's one of the reasons I like staying up there for a week: I can return to my casita if it's crowded where I can relax in the solitude.
