Ghost Town

With nothing in my calendar post-op, now that I'm feeling just about back to normal I'm getting a bit of cabin fever. So today we decided to visit the old shale mining settlement of Glen Davis in the Capertee Valley, about an hour and a half north west of Blackheath.
It was raining when we left so we almost cancelled the plans but fortunately didn't as it turned out a lovely day once we got over the ranges.
It is lovely going somewhere so quiet. During a couple of hours in the whole "township" we saw only two other humans and one vehicle.

IsbiJG has provided details of the history of the area on his blip so I won't repeat it.
I have put a set on Flickr.

The first extra is a view of the Capertee Valley from the road in. Glen Davis is behind the flat topped mountain left of centre. Apparently this is the second biggest enclosed canyon in the world, being 1km longer but not as deep as the Grand Canyon.

The second extra is a tree I would have blipped for Joe Tree last Saturday had I had it then!
