I can't remember I have seen such things before. Protecting of young trees made of wood!
What I usually see in the woods is a lot of plastic, wrapped around young trees. The plastic is not exactly nature-friendly. Animals will not eat them when they are big, but as soon as weather has made them brittle, the small pieces will be a problem.
Not so much with wood. A clever idea!
