Oparara Basin
Had to be selective today to which photos to put up. We headed into Kahurangi park today, to Oparara Basin. our first walk to the main Oparara Arch which is 200m long, 49m wide and 37m high. Created by millions of years where water and the river have dissolved the lime that was created by shellfish and sea life when the earth was covered by sea. The main photo is of a much smaller Arch (Maria Gate Arch). Again about 1 hours walk in from carpark then entry to see the arch is through a hole in a rock, then climb down a cave where you come out on to the river and the Arch. The extras are of a native Robin Bird that has been caught, had a ring/ tag on his leg and released. Very friendly bird in the bush. The other is of an unusual Fungi going on the forest floor. We took so many photos today of so many different fungi. A hot fun day in the native bush of N.Z. lots of great scenery and the sounds of bird life Amazing
