Day 4 // Tors galore
Stunning scenery today!
The sun shone today, we drove over to Hound Tor, parked up and went for an explore.
We walked down & through the ruins of an old medieval village (abandoned in 14th century), then down to a stream, and found a fabulous waterfall a little way along it. Through woodlands & then up to Smallacombe Rocks where we had a bite to eat & admired the view.
Then on to Haytor Rocks, and a spot of rock climbing to sit up on the top for a while,
...this blip was taken from the top of one, looking across to the other. To sense the scale, there are people dotted about :)
A little bit wow!
I'd seen in a book that there was a lake over in Haytor Quarry, so we had a little detour to have a look on the way back, and I'm so glad we did.. It was stunning! We had a bit more to eat sat on a rock over the edge of the lake, there were a couple of other groups of people dotted about, & a couple had a swim too! Lol!
Our path back to the car took us past a group of dartmoor ponies by a small lake, never seen anything like that before, amazing!
4 hours out on the moors, and many memories made.
A quick mooch round Ashburton, & shop in Newton Abbot before heading back for tea.
And finished the day off with a stroll around the village fields in the evening sunshine.
Nice!
