Had a very good sleep in the new room. I made a cuppa then opened the curtains to see a ship already moored and one manoeuvring into the dock. This was at 7am. It was fascinating to watch it, a massive hulk of steel delicately reversing into port.

I showered and got ready and then Packed my bag. Breakfast was good. I also made up a couple of rolls and took a couple of cakes for eating later in the plane. Boiled egg and cucumber for the little roll and cheese lettuce and cucumber for the bolo. A sponge slice and a mini croissant. I had a couple of the plastic bags from the airport to put them in.

I was all packed up and ready to leave but still had a couple of hours to spare before check out at 12. Had a walk down the old town which was buzzing again after the quiet day yesterday. There was a guy cooking chestnuts and a stall selling fruit. Walked down the streets that I had walked a good few times this week and sat at the harbour here looking at this huge ship. Six thousand people are on this when it sails! Unbelievable! I’ve not been on A cruise. This one is German, that would explain the many German voices I heard walking the streets.

Headed back to the TURIM Hotel, which I did like. The staff are lovely too, very friendly.

Checked out. Sat in the reception till 12:30 then pressed the button for a Bolt. It only cost me 9€ which is amazing!

Security had very long lines. Chatted to the couple next to me she realised she hadn’t put her bottle of Poncha in her check in case! So she opened it up and had a drink in the queue lol!

They’ve not got the new machines like they have at Edinburgh where you leave everything in your bag as yet. It’s a small airport and I was hoping to see the runway and the short distance the planes have to stop but there was no viewing bit.

They do it different through passport control too. Once the gate is announced you head for passport desks.

It wasn’t long before we were on board and ready for off. I was sitting next to the same couple as I was on way out so we had a chat.

A very smooth flight home busy (as usual) in the big shed at Edinburgh and picked up by S at the drive in drop off which is now £6! I was really looking forward to seeing him after a week away.

I enjoyed my week away in Funchal. I’d have liked to hired a car but given the bends and the hills I didn’t feel confident enough. The weather was fab and enjoyed the walking without all the layers.

Now, where is next……
