Roll With It

Not a breath of wind on the IoS men’s training, down by one rower we launched our gig with the bung out, I realised when I felt the water coming over my ankles so we recovered the boat, fitted the bung, launched and set off.

The first period of the session consisted of interval training then the five men took on the six women in a race back to the slipway. Hugely enjoyable, taking an initial lead the men fell of finishing a gig length behind, not only because they were a rower short but in part due to the women’s far better technique.

Back alongside it was my turn to row in what is known as the ‘Club Row’, more enjoyable and not focussed on getting everything ‘just so’. By now the breeze had appeared, it felt warmer, making it feel like a ‘proper’ spring morning.

Next stop the Devoran Boatshed to turn ‘Valiant’ so as to be able to start stripping the paint from the inside of the hull, took a dozen of us but not much time.

Home in time to catch Mrs S before her pre-night shift nap.

At one point during the evening I looked around the lounge at the twenty-three books waiting to be read and thought; “I need to get a wriggle on”!
