Catocala sp.
A stunning Underwing Moth. The photo doesn't do it justice--the pink of the hindwing (the brightness for which this type of moth is named) was a vibrant rosy color that left me feeling elated. To paraphase one my favorite authors, such a color could push you past many forms of melancholy.
Not sure of the species, as there are several kinds that sport a similar patterning. I had a hard time leaving it, whatever it was.
From beneath.
