American Swallow-tailed Kite
Not the best picture, but the best I took today. AAnd one for the Blip Big Year!
On our way home from taking my daughter to college, my husband and I were on the look-out for these birds. He pointed out a 2 Turkey vultures circling. When I looked, one was much smaller and had a forked tail! We pulled over on the side of the highway and I started taking pictures. There were several kites, but birds flying give me fits when I try to take a photo of them. I hope to get better with more practice.
The Swallow-tailed kite eat on the wing-flying insects as well as small reptiles. They are found in open woods and bottom lands. These were soaring over the treetops.
