We went back to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum to catch a look at the actual remains of Uncle Ho himself only to discover that it doesn’t pay to use the Rough Guide as your only source of information. Suffice to say, he was still closed for business but we went round the back to see the One Pillar Pagoda and surrounding gardens and decided that the trip had been a worthwhile one after all. Then we went to the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, which is excellent, particularly some of the very fine Buddhist sculpture from, I think, the Seventeenth Century and the more contemporary takes on traditional techniques – lacquer-painted war art and the like. Afterwards we headed back to the Hotel and, after taking coffee at a nice corner café, we got a taxi for the airport, had airport pho for lunch and flew to Hue, arriving after dark at our riverside hotel but in plenty of time to find a nice local restaurant…
