Sunshine and Soil

Spring has almost arrived though I hesitate to put away all the salt, cannisters of de-icer and other accountments that accumulate in winter, a necessity for bad weather.
Thanks to the sunshine i have been able to have a day gardening.

This rhododendron was bought many years ago from Crarae, a National Trust garden, on the west coast of Scotland .

I always remember the words of a gardener we met when we discussed the health of various plants. His advice was brutal:” if a flower is not doing what it’s supposed to do then pull it out.”

Today I ignored that advice and re-potted two sickly plants that I had thrown on the compost heap only to discover that they were beginning to sprout again. So, they have been given another chance.
