Speug

A sunny day, so back in the garden photographing the birds.

When we first moved in over 30 years ago, there were very few sparrows about.  Now, after the chaffinches and goldfinches they are our most common visitors.  They are however perhaps the noisiest, picking quarrels with each other almost constantly.  Sometimes it seems that they'd rather argue than eat, with both males and females equally argumentative.  It rarely degenerates into anything physical as it does with the goldfinches, but boy do they like to shout at each other.

We sometimes get tree sparrows in, but this rather handsome chap is just a common or garden House Sparrow or speug as we sometimes refer to them North of the Wall.
