Sgwarnog: In the Field

Astley

I headed over to Chorley for the day, mainly to watch Nephew #3 in the football, but I was over there in plenty of time so I also had a chance for a walk around.

I’d never previously visited Astley Park which is on the fringes of the town centre. It offered nice woodland walks, lots of snowdrops, and at the far end, Astley Hall and coach house. The Hall wasn’t actually open, but it looks attractive from the outside, including an impressive door (extra). It was another warm day but I’m still waiting for my first butterfly of the year.

At the football I met up with Nephew #4 and we were later joined by Nephew #2 and partner. Chorley were hosting league  leaders Chester so the ground was very busy. Things weren’t looking great when Chester established a 0-2 lead inside 22 minutes, but by half-time Chorley had got it back to 2-2.  The game remained well balanced, but into the last ten minutes Nephew #3 won a corner, and from the ensuing kick Chorley managed to scramble in a winner at the far post. 3-2 the final score. A good result for Chorley, keeping them in the play-off hunt.
