Letter in the box
Just received a letter from an 80 year's old Veteran I'd blipped on Veterans' Day in June and whom I'd sent his blip + some extra out of the 750 captures I'd then made. He's very happy with the images and wrote me an account of his life; dutch of origin and emigrated to Australia in 1955 after surfing as a dutch conscript in New Guinea (the dutch army then opposed the country's fight for liberation of colonialism). Becoming a sport's para in Down Under he was one of the founders of the 37th Air Dispatch Platoon and he went to the Vietnam war as a para; thus he's now a double veteran (in Holland & Aussie).
He retired from the army in 1972 and worked on as a constructor in the sports world till reaching the age of 65.....
I'm surprised with his nice note and so warmed by reading his style of writing his story; he's noted sheer facts and not any remark on how he experienced all his endevours ~ I suppose this is quite common for his generation. Do find it charming as well to read his old spelling of the dutch language:) obviously he's lost touch with those language renewals as he's emigrated more than half a century ago, however his dutch goes fluently still! Need to write him my reply and I'll add a few more prints of the veterans' day captures.
he's added me a print of him while on a parajump and of his house with the dutch windmill he's built after retirement; how sweet it this?!
