Maple Syrup Season

Will be short this year due to the weather. Taps are flowing in Geauga County. Sugarhouses like this one at Butternut Maple Farm are running at full steam while they host open houses, pancake breakfasts, bbq lunches, maple bush rides, and offer samples of their goodies. I went out there for more syrup after a TA shift at North Chagrin Reservation with TM. We walked the river trail from Rogers Road to Oxbow Lagoons, meeting fishermen all up and down the river, along with 3 guys who brave the freezing cold river water to swim every Sunday at noon. There are still large ice floes in the river. All the ponds are remain frozen over despite a high of 46 degrees today.
