Silvretta Glacier

The Prattigau valley in Graubünden is dominated by the presence of the Silvretta Glacier - it can be seen as a background to most of my photos, but I haven't actually focused on the glacier itself. The Silvretta Glacier is a 3 km long glacier. In 1973 it had an area of 3.35 km². We assume it is shrinking each year, but do not have facts and figures on that. On most days it is difficult to photograph as it always seems to have a haze around it. A few years ago we walked up to the glacier and actually walked on it - it seemed surprisingly small from a close range.

Luke has arrived in Switzerland after a very long journey, 27 hours after leaving South Africa. It has been wonderful hearing about the rugby tour and his impressions of South Africa. He loved the food and could not believe how much meat they ate - a 1kg T bone steak for about £7. The host families were very hospitable and friendly, and he played a good mix of schools. He was delighted to be one of fifteen boys out of the twenty eight on tour who were awarded special T shirts for being the best players. Now a bit of a breather before AS results come out next Friday....
