Bovington Tank Museum
I went here often as a child, in the 1970's it was a distant but doable day out for my family which often included friends of my brothers and not bringing my father :-). The time is about 2 to 3 hours drive, which was made longer by the much increased traffic nowadays.
They offered rides which are based outside the main entrance of the museum and is a hoot! My ride a day or so earlier was in the rain, but today the sun was shining for this and the boys loved it! The truck charges round like a mad thing and you get thrown round and perched on edges, all very white knuckle.
The over all museum had changed heaps since the 1970's but the way it was laid out and organised made it easy to wander and much more fun then I remembered, with one exception, you can't climb over the tanks anymore :-( one of my fave things from then.
