Grumpy Old Man

Nailed!

Average day today - dry, breezy with the odd flash of sunshine. I needed to go down town to buy some more nails to finish the top of my new staging. I was short of about 20, but since the demise of Homebase I went to Highland Fasteners where the smallest number I could buy was a 1kg bag of around 650 nails! Oh well, they’ll last me for the rest of my life and I’ll leave the rest to charity!

Came home and set about finishing the job, then turned it upside down and treated the undersides. After lunch, and waiting for the woodwork to dry, I cleaned the glass behind where the staging would sit. Then came the difficult part of the job. The staging was about half an inch narrower than the doorway, so pushing it in was difficult. Having done that, I realised that I couldn’t push it sideways into position from outside the greenhouse. So I pulled it back out, got inside, then pulled it in after me. This left a very small space to stand and jumping it sideways bit by bit took quite a long time! It does slope a bit as the railways sleepers which make up the floor are sloping for some reason - I thought I’d made them level! - but it will do.

Filled it up with plants and it looks as if it’s been there for years - my extra today! Time to come in for a cuppa!
