Memories

This is part of the village centenary garden that was established in 2016 to celebrate our village's centenary. It was poignant visiting it today as the aloes planted were also to honour the world renowned playwright, Athol Fugard, who died yesterday aged 92. "Named the greatest active playwright in the English speaking world by Time magazine in 1989 the Eastern Cape born Fugard wrote about the dawning of his political awareness of the destructive forces of apartheid on humaneness and about the resilience of ordinary people"'
He lived in our village for some years and met with other playwrights and actors in the house that is now hubby's studio.  I have seen some of his brilliant plays, starring John Kani his soul mate who was also born in the Eastern Cape. Many of his books are set works at schools. He always visited our local restaurant when he was visiting our city.
Hubby and I toasted his memory as we sipped sundowners overlooking the sea this evening.
