The Pelican Coffee Shop…
And now it looks open! It’s been shrouded in scaffolding for months and looked closed unless you knew better. Unfortunately there was some sort of dispute which resulted in the scaffolding staying up long after the work was finished so a lot of custom must have been lost; costing a fortune over the period.
But now the scaffolding has gone and the shop facade has a lick of paint and the street looks so much better. I hadn’t realised the Old Quarter banner had been taken down and tarted up while the scaffolding was there but it’s now back up there in all its glory. All that’s needed now is to do something about the state of the buildings. Ideally they’d get a bulldozer in. Job done! But the buildings are protected and have numerous owners so progress is slow. One shop right up in Mansell Street has work in progress but little else is happening. I must say though that by no means everything needs attention; there’s plenty of buildings that look fine.
The extra photo shows all the pigeon droppings below a boarded up window. The pigeon droppings not only look dreadful but are a health hazard if a little toddler grabs hold of it or decides to lick it when mum stops to chat or just adjust the covers on her baby in a pram…
