Reaching for the sky
When we moved into the house, I planted a damson tree with the idea that I'd fan-train it on the back wall. Dream on. Damsons are not for training, or at least not this one, the delightfully named 'Shropshire Prune'. I've learned to let it do its own thing and just trim it to fit in with its neighbours. It rewards me with a few fruits (providing that I keep the pigeons off).
Trump and Musk and Vance.... writing this suddenly makes me think of the vicious trio Boggis and Bunce and Bean in Roald Dahl's 'Fantastic Mr Fox'. Who, I recall, were roundly outwitted and seen off. Dahl knew what cruelty was, whatever his other failings.
Today has seen a ratcheting-up of Trump's anti-Canada tariffs to 50% on some items, while - apparently - intelligence-sharing with Ukraine will be restored in the wake of Ukraine agreeing to a ceasefire. T and M and V now say that 'the ball is in Russia's court'. No comment.
