The face in the wood.
When I moved into this house the doors and skirtings and stairs were covered with layers of not very well applied white paint. I stripped the skirtings and the stairs and sent the doors to be dipped. When they came back I discovered they were pitch pine, the original doors from the 1930's. I oiled then painted them with matt varnish to leave the patterns of the grain exposed. It reminded me of my father painting fake wood grain on a door in my aunt's house and surprised me when a face appeared on one of the bathroom door panels. It made me think of Munch although it looks more surprised than screaming.
