Caged Animal

Chaiyya had a difficult day. She had an appointment at the vet’s this morning, for her regular FeLV jab. But just before I needed to put her into the dreaded carrier box, things got complicated. Our state was trying out the full range of emergency population warning systems all at once - mainly sirens and cell broadcast messages. We knew it was just a drill, but the cats didn’t. So when the sirens howled and our phones started to shrill (and switching the cellphone off doesn’t stop the warning signal, as I discovered today), Chaiyya disappeared under the bed and wasn’t inclined to leave her safe corner anytime soon.

So I phoned the vet and asked for a different time slot. I got it for this afternoon.

Poor Chaiyya got her second shock of the day, when I picked her up and put her into the carrier. I drove the (howling) cat to the vet’s, where she could get some revenge by scratching their new apprentice assistant (who didn’t believe me when I warned her to be careful with our little spitfire). One jab and quick checkup later, we went home again. Time to relax and recover.
