Test
Today was the class test, and I soon realised that I'd made it rather too hard. I'd assumed that the students would understand the difference between power and energy - or at least apply the definition on the test paper. It was doubly unfortunate because I'd designed the first part of the test so that it could be worked out "by inspection" for those who've not been engaging and can't use the modelling language I've been teaching them. It's "only" worth 15% of the class, so it's not the end of the world for those who crash, but it's going to be hard to mark!
After that, I spent the afternoon revising a blog relating to the very big tech company. They've hyped up what I put in the first draft, so I toned some of that down. I'm assured by the School that it will appear at the right time next week when the embargo on some of its content is released. I also had a discussion with PhD student Y, before attending the "Honours Course Fair". This is an opportunity for students in years 2 and 3 to ask questions of lecturers who give year 3 and 4 courses. I had a couple of nice chats.
A non-existent X62 and slow traffic meant that I wasn't home before A left for the evening. After cooking I took Django for a walk, during which I had an email confirming the offer by MathWorks to fund a 4-year PhD studentship to work for HiGHS. I dealt with the initial fall-out from this whilst watched the less than exciting Madrid derby.
