Cley Church
I was woken up first thing by the sound of hail battering down on the roof and windows, how different to a few days ago. After my Sainsbury’s delivery I did another back up of the laptop, this was on an old and extremely slow hard drive which took ages, so I’ve ordered another fast drive from Amazon. Whilst the back up was running and I was monitoring it, I watched Hillbilly Elegy, the film based on the memoir by JD Vance, now the U.S. Vice President. A good film (fab performance by Glenn Close) and very interesting in light of the White House debacle with Zelenskyy.
I had a lunch talk at Cley visitor centre called A Port in Decline about Blakeney and the Glaven ports. I had to leave 5 mins before the end, but I don’t think the speaker was anywhere near finishing. It wasn’t great, lots of detailed and quite boring facts on ship types, numbers, cargo sizes in tonnage and ownership etc, on slides with lots of info that couldn’t be read, not helped by his microphone playing up. I was happy to be leaving. I then attended the Thursday at 3 concert at Cley, which was much more enjoyable. It was by East Winds, a group with flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn and bassoon. They played music by Faure, Elgar, Haydn, Beethoven, Grainger, Shostakovich and Poulenc and finished with a fun piece called The Lone Ar-ranger, which they said has snippets of c40 well known pieces within it. I found this on YouTube, how many can you spot and name?
