Carlins
We have a wonderful shop in Bingley called Hedgehog Organics. I popped in today for a few things and was delighted (and excited) to see Carlins for sale. I can’t remember the last time I saw any.
Though I had a very Yorkshire upbringing in the NE, my mum was happy to take on new traditions, and Carlin Sunday was one of them. In and around Newcastle and South Shields they celebrate the 5th Sunday of Lent as Carlin Sunday. I have attached a link explaining the history behind it.

It is also said that the hatred between Sunderland and Newcastle football teams stems from Newcastle being Royalist during the Civil War. All I can say as a Yorkshire girl is good luck to Liverpool on Sunday, and may the best team win!
And I’m looking forward to Carlin Sunday, and hopefully growing some in the garden this year.
