To the West coast

We left our Albert Town home to head north and across to the South Island west coast.
Up over Haast Pass and down to Haast - and then south along the coast to Jackson’s Bay.
This whole area lured people on the past for gold, and fishing, and a better life. In the 1800s it proved too tough - no roads, challenging coast, limited food. Since then it’s had ups and downs. More recently it was a fishing centre - bringing in crayfish. That has dwindled, but the fish and chip cafe is still doing a good trade - we checked it out!
We headed back up the coast to camp at Haast and caught a beautiful sunset from the beach.
