abandoned telegraph house

There was a series of optical telegraph houses linking Holyhead to Liverpool that served a critical role in shipping in the 1800. This house on Ynys Seiriol(aka Puffin Island) was one of them. Along with a 6th century priory, it forms a strange home to the thriving bird colonies here.

We took the boat ride around the island from Beaumaris this afternoon hoping to see some puffins. We saw them, albeit at a distance and not in great numbers. A disappointed Isaiah pointed out that it should be called "Bird Island" not Puffin Island.
