Thanks to a certain W Shakespeare esq, I always thought that the Ides of March only came into being because of Caesar's assassination that day.
Wrong!
In the Roman calendar, every month has an "Ides", but in true "got-to-feck-it-up-in-some-way-or-other" some of them are on the 13th.
March May July and October have Ides on the 15th of the month, All other months have Ides on the 13th.
While Ides is both singular and plural, the stem of the word , idus, is plural only. It marked the end of a business perioid and the beginning of religious observances.
I wonder what other useless crap will infest my mind today.
Ah well...
