Bournemouth Pier

It ws a beautiful morning.  Although I missed the sunrise I was up early and wandered down to the beach.  The light was lovely and it was very quiet and still.  I took a few photos and enjoyed a walk along the beach.  By the time I was wandering back to the hotel for breakfast the wind had picked up and it was fairly cold.

An exciting day of presentations with Linda Bembridge talking us through her abstract images.  They are beautiful and further enhanced by her printing techniques and hand embellishments.  She was followed by Simon Norfolk talking about art history and his photography in various areas of conflict and war zones.  A very different style and approach to his work.  Interesting.

I managed a quick walk along the beach at lunchtime, now very busy with families and friends enjoying the sunshine.

The speaker in the afternoon was Janine Wiedel again a totally different presentation.  She is a renouned documentary photographer and started by playing us a documentary that was made of her work during 1977 when  she won the West Midlands Arts bursary to document the lives of people in the area.  This included the steel workers, coal mining, chain making, jewellery making and pottery.  More recently she had met up with some of the people she photographed during this which was very moving.  This was followed by images from her time at the Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp. Both were very interesting and informative pieces of work.

There was then a display of any prints people had brought along for us all to view.  What an exciting day of photography.

By now we needed another walk before dinner so we had a wander along to the pier as the sun was setting.
