Ghost town

Every morning I pass the head office of one of Tanzania’s large health NGOs. It’s usually abuzz with vehicles and people starting their days doing important work such as distributing mosquito nets or ensuring health posts are stocked in the furthest reaches of the country.

In recent days the office has looked increasingly shuttered and this must be linked to the US funding freeze. The US government has been a gargantuan and generous funder of health initiatives across the world. All of this work is in jeopardy.

As usual when clueless narcissistic dictators start waving their appendages around, it’s the average person that will suffer. And cuts to these services will unfortunately hit hardest to those who have no means to find other sources of support.
