Contemplation
We discovered a new walk this afternoon along the river Teith, near Doune castle. The tourist season is yet to begin so we had the place to ourselves.
Later we popped into our favourite little Italian bistro for an early supper and bumped into a fellow journalist from our days on the Glasgow Herald.
We discuss the state of the media today. One day she asked her son if he considered journalism. He is horrified.
“Of course not! It’s like asking if I would go down a coal mine. It’s past.”
Enough sad.
We agree we had the best of times, and those days have gone. But never has there been a greater need for impartial independent journalism. Fortunately, we still have the BBC, and Guardian, lone voices against the foghorn of social media.
