The end of the tolls

Both bridges that connect Halifax and Dartmouth have been toll bridges since they were built. When we had the provincial election in the fall, one of the campaign promises the premier made was to remove the tolls from the bridges. Surprisingly it was one of the first things he did, and it was announced that as of April 1, 2025 tolls would not be charged.
The tolls will not be charged for either bridge starting on Monday. The MacDonald Bridge has been closed this weekend and will be closed next weekend so the toll booths and all the electronics can be removed safely. It's going to feel different to not have to slow down or stop when crossing the bridge.
They have to reconfigure traffic for the MacKay Bridge, and once that is done, hopefully traffic will flow smoother. Currently it is 2 lanes of traffic going towards the bridge, then it expands to 6 lanes to get thru the tolls, and people have to merge back down to 2 lanes to cross the bridge. It has been a bottleneck with daily accidents.
I hope I sleep better tonight. I was awake from about 3 - 5 am this morning. Then I had a strange dream.  A gal who used to babysit my son about 35 years ago was here helping me and another one of my workers clear some sod off an area. We rolled the sod into pieces and stacked them in another area, they were too wet to haul away. Then it started snowing. I decided to leave my truck in a service station parking lot and C was going to drive me home in my Pontiac G5 (a car I sold in 2019) but there was so much snow I could open the front door of my truck, but could not get the back door open to get my things out of the back seat. We called my other worker to come over and help us, he was already at his bus stop. That's when I woke up.
