Tiggywinkles
Today our National Trust Support group visited Tiggywinkles , The Wild Life Hospital Foundation, based in Haddenham in Buckinghamshire.
A local charity which cares for animals which have had accidents or are abandoned. They are currently receiving up to 2000 animals and birds per week. Their philosophy is to help the animals recover and return them to their natural environment. Any animal which after recovery is unable to survive in the wild is retained at the centre for the rest of its life.
A very interesting visit where we met staff and the animals. They have 12 animal nurses, a full time vet and many volunteers. The team go and collect injured animals across Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire in addition to animals brought in by the general public.
In addition to caring for the animals the centre is involved in training future animal carers and veterinary surgeons.
The blip shows a long term resident male hedgehog which had just woken up from it's dormancy (of 12 weeks) and a long distance shot of long term stay deer, one with only 3 legs.
The website is www.tiggywinkles.com
The only vegetable matter is the hay around the hedgehog but I liked the shot)
