On Sauvie Island

Sauvie Island was stunning this morning between rain storms. The moss is thick and dripping with rainwater, the lichens seem to be smiling, the woods are in flower, and the birds are just glorious with spring life. Trumpeter swans, woodpeckers, a couple of sandhill cranes, various geese and ducks, and hundreds of little brown birds were all making life, life, life.

My 35mm lens can’t deliver wildlife photos, but here is a fallen tree that has become a nurse log, nourishing a bower of flowering offshoots.

Sue and I soaked up every breath of island wonder till it started raining again, and then we called it done and went off to our separate lives. She leaves soon for a meditation retreat, so I won’t see her for eleven or twelve days. We love our independent lives, but sometimes there are breaks in our togetherness that make us a little wistful. Still, I don’t see how we could be who we are and do it any other way.

Happy St. Patrick's Day to those who celebrate.

Are any of you having difficulty uploading? I keep getting "Photo exceeds maximum allowed size," even when I've reduced it to 50% of original, as I have here. Any tips?
