Gion, Kyoto

We left a very rainy Tokyo this morning for Kyoto and our first experience of a Shinkansen bulletin train. As billed, they are very punctual, very fast and very comfortable.

We were in Kyoto by mid afternoon so, having checked in, we walked over to the Gion district, where some of the old buildings survive for a wander round the streets. This one housed some very up-market restaurants. 

We settled for a more modest but warming bowl of ramen in a more modern restaurant. Much needed in the cold, damp weather.
