Cambridge
I had a last minute cancellation today so I took myself to Cambridge for a trip down memory lane. What a lot of new development! A big tech park by the railway station and lots of apartments, but the old centre is much the same - and just a beautiful! However, I hardly saw a student, but throngs of tourists. I'm sure it's good for business but the down side is that all the colleges have closed their door to casual visitors. It's no longer possible to drift through quadrangles, gardens and along the river without an appointment.
The main object of my visit was Kettle's Yard. I went there in 1971 when Jim Ede still greeted people who rang the doorbell. It's wonderful to see how the collection and the feel of the warm family home has been retained. My extra has four of the many Henri Gaudier-Brzeska sculptures on display.
