Being silent about things that matter

Cathaber happened to mention that she was staying in Edinburgh during the Festival and was going to see a play written by aprecious, just at the time we were thinking of going up for the day. So today was the day. We met up with Cathaber and Olib and their two friends at Greenside Studios and the six of us watched The Silence of Friends, presented by the Byteback Theatre Company. This is a semi-professional company of young people aged 15-25.

What an event! It is a brilliant, if rather harrowing, work about the experiences of people in Germany during 1938- 1945 and the legacy of those experiences. Incredibly well-written, it was extremely well-acted and directed, and kept us all riveted. It was one of those gems that everyone hopes to find amongst all the hundreds of shows put on during the Festival Fringe.

I rather liked this casual picture of the company as they congregated outside the studio straight after the performance, their last one here at the Fringe. A remarkable group of young people indeed. (The suitcases were very significant!)

After the performance and, having met aprecious herself, we all went to a café across the road, which turned out to be a lovely restaurant. Wonderful food and great company. It was good to meet you Cath and Oliver, Isobel and Harvey. Thank you for everything.
