Relaxation...
...with a big sigh of relief, I was chilling out with Lightning last night and waited till today to post my entry.
1. My mom and sister had a good phone conversation on Tuesday night via a nurses cell phone in Memory Care. Kathy was calling from her home in Massachusetts. She reported Mom was upbeat, sounded good and did not say anything about going home.
2. Steve and I visited her yesterday, Wednesday afternoon. It was the first time we had seen her since she arrived about 2 weeks ago. Mom was happy to see us! She asked about Beda, but had no worries and knew Beda was happy. It seems to us she's accepted her new situation. She didn't ask how long she would be there or say anything about going home... we were worried she would be mad at us and/or begging to go home. She was not mad and she did not ask. I think it was absolutely correct advice from the professionals that we give her a couple of weeks to adjust before visiting.
We have asked the Director if mom can move to her apartment in Assisted Living that we had set up for her. After seeing her in Memory Care we think AL would definitely better suit her. She is not looking to leave, which was a concern before because of her resistance to enter. Mom's short term memory is not good and she needs assistance with meds, meals and more, but she is higher functioning than most of the residents in MC at this time.
So now we wait for an answer, as the director must have the decision approved by his superiors.
But as I said at the beginning I feel such a relief. She is safe, she has 24 hour care which she needed (and we could not provide) and she seems okay with this now. It is a miracle and it's so lovely to feel more relaxed. Phew.
