Paphos to Faros.

Today, after breakfast on the balcony, we decided to try and find Paphos aquarium. Unfortunately, when we got there it was filled more with kiosks selling bottle openers in the shape of cats than fish! We decided we would head back to the archeological site we passed yesterday, and we found another part to the Agia Solomoni catacombs. There were more rags tied to the trees outside (although not in the volume that we saw yesterday), and the chambers were much more cavernous than yesterday's. It was cool and damp inside, but outside there were lizards of various sizes zipping about in the sun - we saw one huge one that looked like it had broken out of a zoo!

We walked around for a while trying to find the entrance for the archaeological park, and eventually ended up back at the harbour, where the entrance had been all along. After a pint of Keo (local beer) and some pita and tzatziki, we headed into the site to see the ancient amphitheatre and the mosaics. It was beautiful, in a very hot, dusty sort of way! Although the sea sparkled like a jewel, it was easy to remember how close Cyprus likes to countries like Beirut and Egypt. I couldn't believe how old some of the structures were - some of them from 4 centuries BC. The mosaics were exquisite, made up of tiles no larger than my index fingernail. The amphitheatre was incredible too, and everything was perfectly preserved. We walked for a long time, eventually working out way back to the harbour and home.

We had a well-deserved dip in the pool, then M made us a lovely dinner before we fell asleep on the sofa under the air con unit! We're treating the apartment like home already :o)
