The Edge of the Wold

Web of light

Another morning, another spotlit web. This one was much bigger than yesterday's, and the spider is sat at the very centre. I lost count of the number of concentric coils that make up this spiral construction, how long did something this elaborate take to build? Isn't a spider's web the most extraordinary thing, made out of sticky silk, that weight for weight is stronger than steel? How does a tiny creature put something together with such precision? And something so ephemeral, so easily broken by a passing deer or frayed in high winds. Yet this much effort and precious resource must be worth the investment for the insects that end up in the larder.

I stayed at home today, when the work in the house and on the roof continued. And today we generated our first 8kW of electricity, and tomorrow we will have water heated by sunlight.
